Student Excursion FAKUMA 2018
Germany and the German-speaking region used to and continue to be the largest technology driver in the field of plastics processing. After China, Germany ranks second in terms of production value in plastics machinery construction and is the leading exporter of plastic-related machinery in an international comparison. It is therefore only natural that the most important trade fairs in this sector are also held in Germany. While the world's largest trade fair for the plastics and rubber industry, K, takes place every three years in Düsseldorf, the FAKUMA located in Friedrichshafen fills the gap in the trade fair landscape for two years at a time.
As part of the practical course "Polymers and Polymer Technology" offered by the Institute of Medical and Polymer Engineering, 20 students had the opportunity to experience the latest technological developments at the FAKUMA trade fair up close. The injection moulding and extrusion sectors in particular are traditionally strongly represented here, but the fair also offers raw material manufacturers the opportunity to inform the public about new developments. Since the topic of reprocessing/recycling has experienced quite an upswing in recent years, many companies from this sector were being represented at the fair. Many companies demonstrated presented live-demonstrations of their manufacturing processes, so the students were not only able to take home first-hand impressions and information, but also several give-aways.
